LONGSIDE STAGE A DRAMATIC COMEBACK TO TAKE ALL THREE POINTS

PARKVALE 4 : LONGSIDE 5

Longside made the trip to Findon on Saturday to play Parkvale in the PMAC Group First Division East. It was the visitors who had the first shot at goal when Ramsay found Weir on the right but his shot was deflected for a fruitless corner.

Barron was sent clear by Hazzard but Dean Allan made a fine save. The Longside keeper was in action again minutes later when he saved a shot from Middleton. Hazzard had a chance when he cut inside but he fired his shot over the bar.

Bain made a fine tackle as Middleton looked set to score. Ramsay made a good run down the left but his shot went narrowly past. The home side, with the wind behind them, broke the deadlock in 26 minutes, Dean Allan made a fine save from a Middleton corner but Neil Scott followed up to score.

Parkvale scored a second in 39 minutes when Dean Allan made another good save from Barron but Martin Hazzard was on hand to score. Two minutes later they added a third when Dean Taylor found the back of the net.

Half Time : (3 - 0)

Longside started the second half with Nicol Davidson replacing the injured Steele. A 30 yard free kick from Carr was saved by Glennie at the second attempt. Carr got on the end of a Weir cross but fired it over the top from close range.

The visitors did pull a goal back, however, in 57 minutes when Nicol Davidson got on the end of a fine pass from Butcher before clipping it over the keeper and into the net. Taylor was sent clear for Parkvale but Dean Allan made a brilliant save.

Longside made a second change when Taylor was replaced by Jamieson. Ramsay went clear on the left before finding Butcher, he turned well but fired his shot over the bar. Longside scored a second in 67 minutes when Weir won the ball back and from his cross Sean Butcher was on hand to score.

Three minutes later the scores were level when Jamieson's shot was saved by Glennie, Sean Butcher followed up to score. The visitors took the lead in 80 minutes when goalkeeper Dean Allan scored with a kick out which took one bounce and past his opposite number.

The lead only lasted four minutes when Dean Taylor scored from a Middleton corner. Sean Jamieson scored the winner in 88 minutes when he beat Glennie from 15 yards.

Summing up : A tremendous fightback from Longside who looked dead and buried at half time, but manager, Thomson, must have given them a pep talk as they came out with all guns blazing in the second half. I thought Jason Bain had a great game with some timely interceptions and goalkeeper Dean Allan capped a fine performance with his goal but he also made some superb saves.

Longside are on their travels again this Saturday away to Sunnybank in the PMAC Group First Division East (k.o. 1.30 p.m.)
